The Bauchi Field Office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has condoled with the Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) over the death of two journalists who died from injuries sustained in a recent road accident while on official assignment.
The accident occurred when a vehicle conveying 13 journalists covering an assignment of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Bauchi was involved in a crash, leaving several of them injured. Two cameramen later succumbed to their injuries.
The deceased journalists were Kani Ben of Channels Television, who died nine days after the accident, and Kabiru Ahmed Ilaleh of the Bauchi State Television Authority (BATV), who passed away three weeks later while receiving treatment.
During a condolence visit to the NUJ Secretariat in Bauchi, the UNICEF Chief of Field Office, Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, described journalists as vital partners in promoting the wellbeing of women and children. She commended journalists in the state for their professionalism and their strong collaboration with UNICEF in advancing positive social change.
Responding, the Chairman of the NUJ Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umaru Saidu, thanked UNICEF for the visit and solidarity, noting that the union deeply appreciates the partnership and support the organization has consistently shown to journalists in the state.
