UNFPA Commits to Support Safe Motherhood

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) has commended the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for introducing measures to reduce the rate of maternal and Neonatal Mortality in Nigeria.

Bauchi State UNFPA Programme Officer and reproductive health analyst Deborah Tabara was speaking at the closing of a 5-day implementation design workshop of Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (mamii) in Bauchi.

She assured that UNFPA is always ready to support such initiatives in order to promote family health and safe motherhood which are the primary focus of the Agency.

“Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (mamii) is in line with UNFPA mandate in ensuring that all pregnancies are wanted, no woman dies giving birth, every childbirth is safe and all young persons achieve their potentials.”

Deborah Tabara reiterated that UNFPA’s commitment in ensuring to see the expected outcome of the programme on the lives of women noting that UNFPA is committed to working with the Nigerian government, at the federal level and also at the state level.

“We’ve thrived and would ensure that we get required funding to support implementation of this programme across different thematic areas. We will see the results at the end of the day.”
