No fewer than 1,000 residents of Bara Community in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State benefited from a free medical outreach sponsored by Bauchi South Senator, Shehu Buba Umar, following the recent flood disaster that affected the area.
The one-day outreach, held at the Bara Primary Health Care Centre (PHC), provided beneficiaries with free medical consultations, malaria testing and treatment, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, Hepatitis B screening, treatment of common illnesses, health education and counselling, referrals for complicated cases, and the distribution of Long-Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLINs).
Speaking at the event through his representative, Isa Ahmed Tahir, Senator Buba said the intervention was initiated to address the health challenges that often arise in the aftermath of flooding. He noted that although the outreach could not meet every healthcare need of the affected residents, it was aimed at providing immediate relief and identifying with the community during its difficult period. He also commended the Bauchi State Government for supporting the initiative.
Also speaking, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Bauchi South Senatorial candidate, Hon. Shehu Aliyu Musa (Barden Gabas), represented by Dr. Sulaiman Kusa, urged residents to utilise the free medical services, describing the outreach as part of a series of humanitarian interventions planned across the state.
The Chief Executive Officer of Community Advancement and Development (CAD) Foundation, Abdulrazak Umar, said the programme was made possible through the sponsorship of Senator Shehu Buba Umar and the support of community stakeholders.
In his vote of thanks, the District Head of Bara, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi expressed appreciation to the sponsors and implementing organisation for bringing timely healthcare services to the flood-affected community. He described the intervention as a source of hope for residents and appealed to other philanthropists to support vulnerable communities.
Drugs and other medical consumables worth millions of naira were reportedly distributed during the outreach.
