Thirty women in Yelwan Kumdum Community have received leadership training and a groundnut oil extraction machine from the Attah Sister Helping Hand (ASHH) Foundation under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Project, an initiative implemented by ActionAid Nigeria with funding from Global Affairs Canada.
The intervention saw the establishment of a Women’s Hub, where participants underwent intensive training in leadership, teamwork, communication, accountability, conflict resolution, and collective action.
ASHH Foundation’s Programme Training Officer, Mr. John Frederick, said the initiative is designed to build resilient communities by equipping women with the skills and confidence to participate in community development and local governance.
To enhance the women’s economic opportunities, the Foundation also donated a complete groundnut oil extraction machine to the hub. The Sarkin Yelwan Kumdum, Alhaji Nasiru Hussaini Kundum, described the support as timely, noting that it would ease the burden of processing groundnuts and improve productivity for women in the community.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Women’s Hub Leader, Mrs. Saratu Hassan, said the equipment would increase production, reduce processing time, and improve members’ incomes. The beneficiaries thanked Global Affairs Canada, ActionAid Nigeria, and the ASHH Foundation for the intervention, expressing confidence that it would strengthen their livelihoods and accelerate women’s economic empowerment in the community.
