A girl-centered organisation, Nurture and Empower Her Initiative (NEHI), has sought collaboration with the Bauchi State Ministry of Education to strengthen menstrual hygiene education in schools across the state.
A press statement by the information officer of the ministry, Jalaludeen Usman, said the request was made during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the organisation led by its Executive Director, Florence Uzoanya, to the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Abdulkadir Ibrahim.
Speaking during the visit, Uzoanya explained that the organisation focuses on promoting access to quality education for girls, breaking harmful stereotypes, and removing barriers that limit the potential of girls, particularly those in vulnerable situations. She added that the initiative also advocates gender equity, inclusive policies, and empowerment programmes aimed at strengthening community support systems for girls and young women.

Uzoanya further revealed that the organisation is set to launch the “Bleed With Pride Project” alongside the Bleed With Pride Handbook, an initiative designed to integrate menstrual hygiene education into the school system. According to her, the project will equip adolescent girls with the knowledge, confidence, and support needed to manage their menstrual health with dignity while remaining active in school.
Responding, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Abdulkadir Ibrahim, commended the initiative, describing it as a welcome development that will benefit adolescent girls across Bauchi State. He assured the delegation that the request for partnership would receive due consideration, noting that it aligns with the vision of Governor Senator Bala Mohammed to provide a conducive learning environment for all students.
He further emphasised that girls in the state deserve to learn without barriers and reaffirmed the ministry’s readiness to collaborate on programmes that promote the education, dignity, and empowerment of girls in Bauchi State.
