Population Services International (PSI) Nigeria, with funding support from the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, is set to launch the Nigeria Economic Empowerment and Menstrual Health (NEEMH) Project in Plateau State.
The initiative, scheduled for formal unveiling on May 26, 2026, aims to improve menstrual health, dignity, and economic resilience for women and girls across the state through sustainable and community-driven interventions.
The project is designed to address challenges limiting access to affordable menstrual health products, particularly in underserved and conflict-affected communities where poverty, stigma, weak supply chains, and cultural taboos continue to hinder women and girls.
Through the initiative, women-led groups and community networks will be supported with opportunities for local production and distribution of menstrual health products, while awareness campaigns will promote healthy practices and encourage open conversations around menstrual health issues.
Speaking ahead of the launch, the organisers said the one-day event would bring together government officials, development partners, civil society organisations, women groups, private sector actors, and community representatives to strengthen collaboration and collective action.
According to PSI Nigeria, the NEEMH Project seeks to build a sustainable menstrual health ecosystem in Plateau State by strengthening local supply chains, supporting women entrepreneurs, and ensuring that women and girls can safely manage their menstrual health while participating fully in education, social life, and economic activities
