The Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency (BASHCMA) today, Friday 12th December, 2025 joined the global community to commemorate the 2025 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day with a public awareness walk across major streets in the state capital.
The event was aimed at deepening public understanding of UHC and reinforcing the state government’s commitment to ensuring that every resident has access to affordable, quality healthcare without financial hardship.
The colourful procession kicked off along Bank Road and moved through Yakubun Bauchi Road, State Secretariat, before terminating at the Agency. Participants shared fliers with messages promoting equitable healthcare, preventive services, and the need for increased enrollment into the Bauchi State Health Contributory Scheme. Members of the public along the route commended the initiative, describing it as a timely reminder of the importance of health security.
The Bauchi State Head of Civil Service, Barrister Mohammed Sani Umar, who joined the walk, lauded BASHCMA for sustaining advocacy efforts around accessible healthcare. He emphasized that UHC remains a priority for the present administration, adding that the government has continued to strengthen institutions and policies that guarantee improved health financing and service delivery.
According to him, collaborative engagements like the walk help mobilize citizens to embrace health insurance as a safeguard against unforeseen health challenges.
The awareness walk witnessed the active participation of management staff of BASHCMA, officials from health-related ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), civil society organizations, and journalists.
The director of program of the agency Abdulkadir Ahmed reiterated the agency’s resolve to scale up enrollment, expand coverage to vulnerable groups, and work closely with partners to fast-track progress towards achieving Universal Health Coverage in Bauchi State.
