Population Services International (PSI/Nigeria) recently organized a training for select journalists and social media influencers on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) in Bauchi State.
The training was aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to craft messages that could trigger behavioral change and encourage open discussions around menstrual health.

According to Gloria Obed, Program Officer for PSI’s Menstrual Hygiene Health (MHH) Project, the goal is to empower menstrual hygiene champions to educate and support adolescent girls and women.

Zuwaira Baba, Gender Desk Officer in the Bauchi State Ministry of Health, emphasized that the training would focus on communication skills, breaking stigmas, and promoting inclusivity.

The two-day training covered topics such as understanding adolescents and menstruation, menstrual products, effective disposal methods, and addressing myths and misconceptions around MHH.

Participants learned how to craft compelling messages and key menstrual hygiene messages.
Upon completion, the trained journalists and influencers are expected to act as educators and advocates, building community awareness around menstrual hygiene and contributing to long-term change in perceptions.

This initiative is a step towards promoting menstrual health and hygiene in Bauchi State, and it’s expected to have a positive impact on the lives of adolescent girls and women.
