The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has commenced the seventh round of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS-7) across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The survey aims to provide crucial data for shaping evidence-based government policies.
Speaking at the launch, Semiu Adeyemi Adeniran, Statistician-General of the Federation and CEO of NBS, urged citizens to cooperate with field officers. “This exercise is crucial for shaping evidence-based government policies,” he said.
Adebayo Otunuga, NBS Zonal Controller for the South-West zone, praised the timing of the survey, saying it would enable policymakers to devise targeted strategies for the nation’s most pressing challenges.
Over 100 enumerators have been trained to collect data on maternal, newborn, and child health, education, and socioeconomic indicators. Muhammad Okorie, UNICEF’s Social Policy Manager, stressed the importance of high-quality data for effective development planning.
The survey results, expected to be released next year, will provide insights on child nutrition, education outcomes, health services, sanitation, and overall well-being, strengthening national and state-level interventions.
