The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Nigeria has appointed Ms. Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef as its new Country Representative.
With over two decades of experience in humanitarian and development work, Wafaa brings exceptional leadership and expertise to drive progress for Nigeria’s children and communities.
A press statement signed and issued by Susan Akila, UNICEF Nigeria’s communication specialist said, before joining UNICEF Nigeria, Wafaa served as the UNICEF Representative in Somalia, where she achieved notable successes in promoting children’s rights and well-being amidst complex challenges.
Her distinguished career spans senior roles with UN agencies, including OCHA, UNICEF, and WFP, in countries such as Sudan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Syria, and Ethiopia.
Wafaa’s professional background includes working with the private sector, academia, and NGOs on initiatives focused on displaced populations and environmental conservation.
She holds advanced degrees in Architecture and Physical Planning from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the University of Khartoum.
As UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative, Wafaa is poised to make a significant impact, leveraging her expertise in program management, coordination, and strategic planning to advance the organization’s mission.
The statement concluded saying that, UNICEF Nigeria welcomes Wafaa and looks forward to her leadership in promoting the rights and well-being of every Nigerian child.
